National Library Week 2009
"Everyday, libraries in big cities and small towns, colleges and universities, in schools and in businesses help transform their communities," says FOSTPL President Judy King-Edmeade. "At our library, people of all backgrounds come together for community meetings, lectures and programs, to do research with the assistance of a trained professional, to get help finding a job or to find homework help."
First sponsored in 1958, National Library Week is a national observance sponsored by the American Library Association (ALA) and libraries across the country each April.
As part of National Library Week (April 13-18), Friends of St. Thomas Public Libraries (FOSTPL) will take part in "Read on the Green" on Saturday, April 18 2009 at the University of the Virgin Islands St. Thomas Campus grounds.
This year's theme is "Worlds Connect @ Your Library". Enid M. Baa Public Library will need assistance with setup and breakdown, as well as reading to children throughout the day. One hour shifts are requested beginning at 10:30am sharp, to end at 4:30pm. Reading to children begins at 12 noon.
In addition, FOSTPL will also host a General Meeting from 2:30pm-3:30pm at Read on the Green. Please bring a blanket and a book to exchange with another member. Those FOSTPL members who have them, are asked to wear their Summer Reading Program t-shirts to the event.
To sign up to help with setup or breakdown, and/or to read to the children, please contact FOSTPL President Judy King-Edmeade via email at jedmeade@fostpl.org by April 17th at 5pm. ***National Library Week Fact Sheet.
