Community Events @ Your Public Library
October 21, 2008: In conjunction with the Friends of the St. Thomas Public Libraries and in keeping with the mission of the Enid M. Baa Public Library (EMBLP) to maintain and improve the quality of library services to the community, the EMBLP has planned a community interest series of Events @ Your Public Library.
In the month of November, Baa will present the "I Don't Have Time to Read" book discussion, designed for busy readers. Readers will sign-up to present a book for discussion that they have read recently or that had a significant impact on their lives.
To start off the new year, Baa will be offering the Health Resources Workshop in January 2009. The workshop will focus on electronic resources like PubMed and Medline Plus that provide unbiased consumer health information. Medical librarians in the territory will present what resources are available locally and on line.
For March, Virgin Islands History Month, the Enid M. Baa Public Library will offer a family history workshop designed for both novices and advanced researchers. The presenters will share their own personal histories and research techniques, as well as identify resource persons, sites and documents. They will also demonstrate oral history interviews.
In celebration of Albert Daniel's birthday, the public library will present a lecture on the life and art of Albert Daniel, in May of 2009. He was born and raised on St. Thomas and was also a sculptor and poet. The original Albert Daniel paintings on display at the Baa public library will be highlighted in addition to other privately owned pieces.
The Enid M. Baa Public Library is providing these programs free of charge and open to the general public, some parking will be reserved adjacent to the library and refreshments will be provided.
