Support FOSTPL via CFVI!

The Community Foundation of the Virgin Islands (CFVI) has partnered with the Friends of the St. Thomas Libraries (FOSTPL) to fund several programs and purchases for Enid M. Baa Public Library. Donors develop their funds with the Foundation which creates a central clearing house of sorts between givers and receivers and monitors the use of the funds.

When we solicit funds from various EDC companies we find the response comes from the Community Foundation under the able leadership of Dee Baecher Brown.

Non-profit organizations maintain wish lists at the Foundation which donors can use to designate what they want their monies to be used for. This makes a perfect way for both parties to meet on neutral ground and meet each other's needs.

FOSTPL has received monies from the Kimmelman Foundation, The Fuerzeig fund, the Tunick Fund, the Dreihaus Fund, and the Charaf Fund among others (see our "On the Shelf" page). These donations were used to purchase furniture for the library, to purchase books for the literacy program, to buy the audio collection of books in the adult library, to fund the purchase of Spanish books and Young Adult books. We have also received a mini grant each year to support the Saturday Morning Children's Reading Program. In 2003, we received the Silverbells and Cockleshells Award for the Summer Reading Program (SRP) at the Enid M. Baa Public Library which we used to buy children's books.

Other funding sources for the Friends of the library programs: The The Foundation for Enhanced Learning has funded, in perpetuity, the Summer Reading Program which pays for the reward certificates and the promotion and awards ceremony. First Bank has presented FOSTPL with the neighborhood grant for the past three years which was used to purchase chairs for the children's room, to develop publicity for literacy, to purchase career materials for young adults and this year to update the audio-visual equipment in the children's room. Scotia Bank and Little Switzerland have given us monies to buy reference books for the library.

Other significant 'in kind' donors are Dockside Bookshop, Fortress Storage, Billy Dee's, Draughting Shaft, and Inner Wheel.
