True Story -- 'Keep Them Reading!'

"A library should say, 'Learning, Knowledge, Imagination and History are important and respected here'." --- [from the signature file of David Alvaro Simon, M.S.L.I.S.]

On Saturday, February 19, 2005, two of the thousands of visitors to the U.S. Virgin Island of St. Thomas were treated to a sight that deeply moved them. According to David Alvaro Simon, M.S.L.I.S. (Master of Science in Library and Information Science), a glimpse into the doors of the Enid M. Baa library stirred the pair's curiosity: "This morning a tourist couple - husband and
wife - came to the library and asked what was going on", he related. They had happened upon a particularly engaging session of the weekly Saturday Morning Reading program coordinated by Dr. Tara Stewart-Kirkpatrick.

Simon continued, "They then donated $40 to purchase children's books and stated simply, 'Just keep them reading!'... There were about 17 children present along with Tara and Ivy doing 'Story Time'."

This is just another testament to the dedication of the library management and staff, Dr. Stewart, Ivy, Basil, and the parents and children who fuel the excitement at the Enid M. Baa Public Library.
